Soil compaction is a serious problem for any farmer or landscaper. Compaction zones, the result of tilling and building, occur when pressure is exerted on the ground and creates a layer of soil that can be as dense as concrete. This inhibits root growth and creates an area that prevents water from filtering through the soil. A penetrometer helps detect trouble spots and gives you more knowledge of your soil.
